A Land Like No Other
Well well, it's been nearly one month of idle time in this bloody blog, a period where I was kept busy hell of alot. Finally, I can set myself free as most of the stuff which has kept me busy is getting outta my way. TNL On Stage is finally reaching the climax this Saturday the 25th !!!
Damn, what a hell of a lineup it featured for the last two months. People who whine that Sri Lankan musicians lack originality should get their lazy asses out from the seats and hop on to check out the cool bands & the soloists who will be performing in the finals. If you missed the preliminaries, well that's seven years of badness on u !! I make no attempt to describe how cool some bands who failed to impress the judges. If you missed it, remember there's always the next time. Put a reminder now itself :P Same excuse is not permitted for two years in the running.
It is sad that most of these bands who try to come up with original stuff fade away simply because Sri Lankan media do not give publicity for bands with originality. Only TNL 101.7 gives airplay to local talent and to some extent Y 92.6. But seriously all other medias, they just give publicity if the artist is backed up by some "influence" of a "firepower" person. Some radio stations ask money to play the tracks. That is so SHIT. (beleive me our band was also a victim of this)
Think about all the famous artists who get airplay on almost all media stations. Bathiya and Santhush, Iraj, Centigradz, Chinthy !!! What do these people have in common ??? Their breakthrough track is not an orignal. They made a name for themselves by remaking an original as their breakthrough hit and then switched to originality. What does this say ? If a "New Age" band starts producing original hits by themselves they will never be considered for an airplay spot, unless of course you got the green notes. In other words, our media hoods are selfish. Real selfish. They know that playing an original track of an unknown artist is not going to give them any advantage. What they look for is same kind of beats, same kind of sounds that are familiar. You make a track which has some rap parts which are never understandable and pubjabi beats. PRESTO...it will be played. What happens to an artist who has the wits to try out something which has never been done ? YOU ARE CUT & CHOPPED. WRONG DECISION. WAIT UNTIL A REPUTED ARTIST INITIATES THE TREND & THEN TRY AGAIN !! OH MY..A LAND LIKE NO OTHER

i was not focusing on d location mr. jagger !! the focus was on originality. Ok, so why many sinhala only bands r also yet to get proper airplay on radio ?? unless of course they come frm d iraj family or the BnS family.
elite? col 7? man jagger do u even go to any local events??? most of the bands are talented individuals from Kandy and other out station area...
In Sri Lanka, Sinhala is considered to be the language of the goday masses. You won't see the English educated fuckwits touching it with a 10 foot pole. Ditto for radio stations. Colombo is crawling with fucking kalu suddas who don't give a flying fuck about their mother tongue and treat it with utmost disdain. Why don't you complain about all those lame ass rock bands playing the same old tired tunes over and over again while people go goo goo gaa gaa over them?
Bathiya & Santhush DID do something new and they are 1000 times better than all those wannabe English bands in Sri Lanka who think their mother tongue is some sort of leprosy.

B&S did sumthin new but wht im sayn is there is no fuckin opportunity for other bands who maintain their kind of originality - SIMPLE AS THAT !
and btw - there no such intent in my post sayn english stuff r d only ones which r not recognized. it applies to all THREE langauges !
I suppose B&S is very patriotic these days by ripping hindi music and adding english/sinhala to it??? wow!!! at least our english rock bands have the decency to sing ORIGINAL english music their own compositions instead of ripping old tunes!!! I am waaaay proud of them than I could ever be of B&S!!!
Well i must say dat this is a good issue dat no one cares to dive in. There are two popular bands which sings two different songs to the same tune.but the media plays both cz itz from famous bands (duhhh)anyway I say dat we always hear the same old tunes by famous artists playing on air again n again, which bores us listeners. But if the media gives a chance to the new breed also, well they will also provide their best as the other. no doubt!!!
Dear Ayesha, are you yet another kalu sudda? At least BnS sing in their mother tongue and are not ashamed to do it like those lame ass rock bands that act like they dropped out of America. BnS worked themselves up to the top through their own hard work - they didn't have rich parents who sent them to international schools and bought them the best guitars and speakers. They didn't have retarded parents who taught their kids to act like elitist scum bags and shun their mother tongue. Everyone knows BnS, and so does all the expatriate Sri Lankans living outside of Sri Lanka. None of them really gives a shit about all those pathetic English rock bands in Sri Lanka. What "original" music are you talking about? Most if not all those rock bands are composed of wannabes, shaking their heads and jumping up and down like monkeys and trying their very best to sing like American rockers with fake accents. And the amount of regurgitated and ripped off they play shit makes one sick. Yeah, be proud of them, cos no one else gives a toss about em.
well mister ranil...if u say all rock bands in SL r wannabes then ur nothing but screwed up..jus go to a rock company concert to experience quality rock music..ORIGINAL of course...also without yelling with baseless things buy an album n cum up with constructive criticism. shaking the heads doesnt mean rockers r wannabes..its all in d rock music genre...do u know how many wanna b rappers out there in sinhala bands ???? with fake accents n all? of course wanna b rock bands do exist but to judge all rock bands on dat level is so fucking wrong. afterall it's sri lankan talent dude. appreciate when u c talent. if u dnt listen 2 local rock then stay silent cuz u dnt knw anything bout them which gives u no right to make a fool of ur self out here.
i only meant to address the originiality issue frm dis post but seems dis topic is deviating towards a language conflict plus a genre conflict ! sinhala or tamil or english, if it's good THEN face it..SAY IT'S GOOD ! afterall there shd b sum1 to take away from B&S n Iraj so we shd groom them rather than bitchin at 'em..PEAZE Y'ALL !
